This is another project I’ve been meaning to make for myself for awhile. I used to keep my business cards in my wallet, but that makes it unnecessarily full. Plus, things tend to get shuffled around more and the cards can get rubbed and grubby looking. It’s a pretty basic and universal design, but I was inspired by this post from The Crafty Cupboard. She uses a small hair elastic and button to keep it closed. I like little but useful projects like this for using up fabric odds and ends…
For my version, I decided to embroider my scissors logo onto the ‘front’. To give myself an outline to work with, I opened the original scan I had on the computer and zoomed out my screen until the image was the right scale. Then I held the interfaced muslin piece in front of it and traced in pencil. I used some heavyweight black polyester thread to outline and fill the design. It was a nice little project to do in front of the TV (computer TV).
The inside pockets are made using my ‘signature’ bag trick. Clear vinyl with the top edge bound in cotton twill tape. I stitched on the binding by hand with the same thread from the front. The lining is a scrap of quilting cotton I used in the Wedding Quilt. I like the classic look of the unbleached muslin on the outside and pop of pattern and colour on the inside.
This is a good little design that could be made larger or in a different shape to suit a variety of purposes. In fact, I’ve already started a new wallet based on the card holder, but with some extra features. Stay tuned for the reveal soon!
