Punk Faerie Productions: Project Archives 2010

Once again, my big project in 2010 was a unique wedding party. The Bride wore a light green custom drafted dress.

Another large commission was a disfigured fish costume – almost like a mascot in construction. It was designed by a performance artist who used it in several short pieces and a full length fringe show in 2011. The fish body hangs from the shoulders on wide suspenders, leaving the arms and legs of the artist free. Foam panels covered with holographic spandex fabric, lined in muslin. Hand sewn/painted accents. The head portion uses a bubble machine for the mouth that hangs from a ‘spine’ mounted to the wearer’s body.

The entire head zips off (holes above the mouth allow the  bubble machine to be held upright) to reveal fabric ‘guts’ that spill out for dramatic effect. Openings in the fish’s body behind the head allow access to the fins to animate the Fish and store props. A pocket on the underside of the rear has fabric ‘shits’ that are pulled out for certain performances.

A family member had brought back Chai Tea from Egypt, but it was found to be unsafe to drink. It smelled wonderful though, so after sifting out the smaller particles, I fashioned these ‘tea bags’ to be used as sachets.

I also did some makeovers on some vintage maxi dresses for use as ‘fantasy’ medieval costumes for a local rental shop. A combined goal of using some of the longer dresses that were undesirable to use as is, and to build some lighter weight costumes that are easier to wear than the more authentic but heavy/warm versions on hand.

The beads on the neckline were re-used from a broken necklace, and the cream overskirt, sleeves and neck binding were from a thrifted duvet cover.

The following were mostly Xmas gifts for family members. Aprons are a useable item, and I tried to customize each with the personality and taste of the person it was intended for. The first two were a matching set for a couple.

Hostess Apron: Polkadot cotton with pocket and removable pearls

Host Apron: Pinstripe suiting with pocket and hand painted details

Empire Waist Apron (Recipient was pregnant at the time): Plaid cotton with burgundy twill tape accent.

This Embroidered Tea Cozy was also a gift – my first foray into ‘real’ embroidery.
