I feel as if I’ve come full circle now. I’ve made a few non traditional wedding dresses and now I’ve made a Wedding guest dress that could easily be a wedding dress!
An acquaintance of mine came to me with an unusual request (or in my case – pretty average). She needed a white dress to wear to a wedding where the wedding party will be wearing white and the couple getting married will be in bright colours. She sent me some inspiration images and we ended up with a very 60s looking bridal satin cocktail dress with a fitted top and a box pleated skirt. Since she was also the wedding planner and going to be working at the wedding, we added useful side seam pockets.
A self covered belt with stiff belting inside sits in crocheted thread loops and hooks at the back with a dress clip.
To add a bit more poof there is a lightweight built in petticoat with a ruffle at the bottom. Inside is a waist stay and bra stays at the shoulders to keep things where they should be.
Underarm gussets provide for a fitted sleeve with movement.
Hopefully there will be some good action shots of the dress at the event!
There is a good chance that this little number may get a makeover via a dye bath in the near future. I’ll be sure to update this post if that happens….
