The first (chronologically speaking) wedding party attire I built this fall was very different from the second. For a backyard ceremony, I made 7 bridesmaid skirts, 2 flower girl skirts, and 2 bow ties from a lovely drape-y rayon fabric in a medium grey tone.
(See more shots of the day here.)
The skirts were gathered dirndl style with centre back zip closures and a wooden accent button at the waistband. The 2 children’s versions were elasticized in the back waistband for ease and comfort. All but one included side seam pockets, and each of the ladies chose their own skirt length.
For the bow ties, I used the same fabric, doubled with medium weight interfacing to keep them shaped nicely. A fellow seamstress friend sent me the hardware upon my request to make them the pre-tied type with adjustable neck band. I included with the bow ties a matching pocket square.
This project was a good contrast to the other wedding I was working on at the same time. Lots of grey, but the end result was lovely.
